Day 3 - Options
(You choose your walk day!)
If you've chosen to extend your stay with us for an extra night (self-catering), then today, after breakfast we bid you farewell, but if you are up for more walking, then the following are available close by:
Take a short drive to Tinui to do the 3 hour walk up to the oldest ANZAC Memorial Cross and back, starting from the Cemetery. Please note - this walk is only available to the public from 1 November to end of April each year.
Tinui also has a Café & Bar, serving a variety of really scrumptious meals, drinks and coffees all day, open 6 days a week (closed on Mondays). There is a living historic village and museum room for you to look around as well as a Craft Shop.

Alternatively you could travel a little further to one of our local beach resorts Riversdale or Castlepoint, to enjoy 9 holes of golf (clubs available to hire) or a game of tennis.
At Castlepoint take a walk up to the Lighthouse or along the scenic Deliverance Cove track to Castle Rock (up close) and look for sunbathing fur seals. You could have coffee or lunch at either beach store or go for a swim or walk along the beach (and terraces at Riversdale). Or simply relax and enjoy the tranquil beach setting! |
On the way back towards Masterton, only 15 minutes from Ica is the Montford Trimble Foundation - Rewanui Forest Park Walks. Rewanui is a 334 ha property, where people of all walking abilities can find tracks suitable to them. It has areas of natural bush, open grassland and sites suitable for growing both native and exotic trees. The foundation is developing the property as a forest park and trail site for native and exotic trees. For more details click here.
Also, on the way home (if travelling to Wellington), don’t forget to explore the small towns of Greytown or Martinborough – great for lunch, shopping and wine tasting!
