About The Walk - Day 2

Picture2nd Day Spot Height 329m View, Whareama Coastal Walk
 10kms (3 - 4 hours walk)
(Moderate/energetic walk with 2 hill climbs!)

After a leisurely breakfast and again making up your picnic lunch, you follow a bulldozed track and markers out the back of ‘Wai Ngaio Retreat’, where you will see wonderful expansive views of the Wairarapa countryside in front of you, leaving the ocean behind you.

(Single Day Walkers are transported to the Wai Ngaio Retreat for the start of this walk.)

PictureHistoric Ica Station Homestead
Following a well marked track through the ever-changing scenery of pines, native bush and streams, you meander down from the Wai Ngaio Block (belonging to Castlepoint Station), to the Ica Station Yards and caravan in the bush -  a great spot to have ‘morning tea’, before continuing along the track to come out at the Ica Woolshed.

From here you walk through the yards and follow the track to the impressive Ica Homestead and grounds, where you started from yesterday (and the very 1st Whareama Walk used to start 24 yrs ago!).  This is a no exit road, therefore only walkers and official visitors ever get to see this beautiful property!

Today’s walk is less taxing than yesterday, but the views are just as spectacular. Once back at Ica Station Homestead, you have the opportunity to grab a shower and 'cuppa' before heading home.

If you are on a 3-Night Walk, please make yourselves at home for your final night and refresh yourselves in our spa and swimming pool area or take the short trek down to our swimming hole in the Whareama River (weather dependent).
